Suzuki Gsx650f

Suzuki Gsx650f

I just got back from a leisurely stroll through the dealer checking out some of the new 08 models, and one that really caught my eye was the suzuki GSX 650f:Now, I'm still a newb when it comes to motorcycles, but I can't for the life of me figure out what niche this bike is supposed to fit in.The 650 would seem like an emerging class - pioneered by the SV in both of its flavors, and now rounded out by Kawasaki's parallel Ninja 650 and divergent but like-minded Versys. All of these bikes have twin cylinder torquey engines that deliver in the range of real world riding without being able to hit light speed like their cousins in the 600 inline 4 class. They're still fairly light (all under 400 pounds) and competitively priced (the versys and the fully faired SV being the most expensive at a few hundred under $7,000 MSRP). Enter the GSX 650F: Most notably, it's an inline 4 instead of a twin. Why gun for the 650 title if it's just going to be an inline four? Especially if your company is already selling th e original? From what I've read, it's a re-worked Bandit 600... if they renamed and reworked it, you'd think it would be to compete with the growing 650 class, right?Well, the bike is $100 more than any of the rest of the class, $500 more than the Ninja and a full $1,000 more than the naked SV. For that price, you get a bike that weighs a hundred more pounds - as much as a busa - but that looks like it couldn't avoid a light hit by Suzuki's patented ugly stick (the bike alleges to have taken styling cues from the GSXR line, but in person it just looks like an awkward teenage GS500 that hit its growth spurt and is still wearing old clothes).
